Touring Turkey / Pamukkale:

" ... He is in that hole for the last one hour, where no others could stand more than two minutes...
People of Hierapolis are waiting for him to come out of that poisonous cave, expecting the same miracle to happen again. Since this is the only way to receive messages from Gods;... whispers all around, run... they say... to get best seats at the theatron. 'Messenger' should be there any moment ... "

What a story ! Can this be true ? Who knows... the fact is that the ancient city Hierapolis was built around that cave. It is obvious that people of the city believed in this 2300 years ago.

Hierapolis; the ancient city is built on top of & side by side with Pamukkale; known by locals as 'Cotton Castle'
. Looking from a distance, it truly gives a cotton-like look.

The formations of Pamukkale are unique since there is no other example in the world of this size. Volcanic activity of the area gave rise
to the emergence of a number of very hot springs. The water from one of these springs, with its large mineral content - chalk in particular - creates Pamukkale. The effect of this natural phenomenon has left thick white layers of limestone and travertine cascading down the mountain slope resembling a frozen waterfall.
However, the amount of this hyrogen carbonate & calcium content of spring water decreases in recent years. It looks like, slowly, we are loosing Pamukkale. May be too late now... the site is recognized as a 'World Heritage Site' and anything possible is done to save the cotton-like / snow-like look of this unique landscape.

It is located on the inter-state road from Ephesus to Cappadocia. This is a long day drive from 8am to 7pm. Pamukkale is always a great overnight stop for people who prefer not to drive all day long to Cappadocia.
