Touring Turkey / Pergamon:
These are the people
• who invented parchment as alternative to papyrus,
• who had built the second largest medical center of antiquity (Asklepeion),
• who had built the second largest library of antiquity (after the one in Alexandria; Egypt that Cleopatra was very proud of),
• who had found their place in the Bible as Pergamon becomes the location to one of the 'Seven Churches
of Revelation'; the only physically standing one.
Speaking about the Church of Pergamon...
below is a short section of John's letter:
" ... these are the words of Him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. I know where you live - where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city - where Satan lives ... "
Pergamon... where Satan lives !
Pergamon... where the throne of Satan is !!
Well... could this be because Greek & Roman traditions were so strong in Pergamon that early 'followers of Jesus' found it very difficult to convince people that there is only One Dominant Power !!!
