Touring Turkey / Perge:

Appx 10 Miles east of Antalya, there lies Perge...
10 miles ahead is the Mediterranean Sea, 3 miles behind is Taurus Mountain Range...
mountains giving no passes... like a wall between Mediterranean and inland Anatolia (Roman name given to Asian Turkey)

It was 1200 BC... Greeks from north finally explored passes to the Mediterranean... migrations began, pushing locals away. Around 1000 BC, to have a better contol on trade routes, they built four major cities, Perge as one, the others were Aspendos, Side & Silion.

The eternal enemies never leave Greeks alone; the area was captured by Persians around 550 BC, till Alexander comes in 333 BC.
Alexander has a promise given to his home-land... he will get Persians ! The army falls behind ! who cares... he is the 'unstoppable'... if necessary, he will confront Persians all by himself.
On the other hand, he is thankful to the people of Perge, is he not... since it was the escorts from Perge who guided his armies through the passes of Taurus Mountains...
Once again, the army is right behind Alexander the Great !

Perge lived the best times in the first 300 years of after Christ..
We call this as 'Plancia factor'... a beautification programm; reconstructing old, to give a better look.

She; Plancia Magna, was the daugher of the governor of the entire land... clearly, a richest lady ever.
The city she lives should be as beautiful as she is... this is how we see her name nearly in every corner of the city. Turn left, there is Plancia, turn right, there you see something related to Plancia again !
She was like a demiGod to the people of Perge... not the elders maybe; coming from stronger traditions, but, the middle aged and young men of Perge turned her into an Artemis-like image in their minds.

One way or the other, everything about her is behind clouds...
Perge, on the other hand, would never be this beautiful without her.
